Need TAX help. I work in PA but I'm a NY resident...?
I'm working part-time here in PA. But I am a New York resident. When it comes time to file for taxes (early I know, but might as well find out), do I file in NY or in PA? Thanks.

lavishedkindness:  both unfortunally. two different states means you are paying more taxes. When it comes tax time i recommend using turbo tax or having someone do it. Its really easy, i worked in NC but was a CT resident ;)

NM505:  You won't have to pay more taxes (unless NY has a higher tax rate than PA). I'm not familiar with the specific forms in PA, but you will fill out a PA form for non-residents and your regular NY state income tax form. The taxes you paid in PA are then deducted from your NY state income tax (you'll fill out an extra NY form for income earned in another state). You should be able to find these forms on each state's Dept. of Taxation website. Some tax software is better than others, and may not be able to generate the specific state forms you need.

Judy:  The PA form is a PA-40, available on the state website www.state.pa.us - there's a place at the top to check resident, non-resident, or part year resident.
