Can I take tax credit for my childs school fee and other school related expences?
My daughter is going to a private school in Nevada and my tax guy says that we can't claim school expenses in our taxes. Is that true?
I would appriciate any help.

v b: K-12 private school gives you $0 deductions and credits on the 1040. Private college would get you a possible credit for tuition only.

bostonianinmo: Your tax guy is correct, unless you daughter is in college. Only post-secondary education is deductible, and even then the deduction is severely limited.

DoomDiva: The only thing I know about is Illinois and Minnesota allow homeschoolers to receive a small write-off, since they are acting as their own private school. It's through the state, not the fed. I'm in Illinois, and I think I got about $35. No big deal.
