The IRS kept my Stimulus payment to apply to my old tax balance, how does this help our economy?
I had already set up an installment agreement and have been paying on time. I was aware that they would keep any refunds that I was due but I never believed that they would keep a stimulus payment, I am irate that my goverment would scam me! There are millions of americans who owe back taxes, was this just another way for the goverment to take our money to fund this ridiculous war by the tax payers hard earned money.

ghouly05:  Sounds more like you scammed the government (and me) by not properly paying your taxes earlier. Taxes got to more than the war. You don't get to pick what items you think your taxes should be used for; that why we elect members of congress.

Beverly S:  Why would you think you got scammed? You owe for back taxes, the government just paid some of your debt. Be thankful that you owe less than you did before. All the millions of tax payers who owe back taxes were treated exactly like you were.

Judy:  Your government scammed you? You were the one who didn't pay your taxes when they were due, that's why you owed back taxes. The government is just keeping the rebate money to pay some of your debt. Who's scamming whom?

John Scott:  You said that you are aware that any refunds would be kept. The stimulus payment is nothing more than an advance of a presumed refund on your 2008 tax return. So either way, the money is going towards your debt. Or think of it this way. Your debt is now that much lower. Since your agreement will be paid off earlier--use the extra money THEN to stimulate the economy!

Frenchy:  Pay your taxes and then you can get some of the money back. My husband and I paid over 10,000 in taxes. Yes it hurts, but my taxes go to better our country and citizens. I am very happy to get the money back this way.....However, I DID pay my taxes to get it.
