Can anyone help with my self assessment tax return?

Can anyone help with my self assessment tax return?
I am in full time employment working for a company but I wish to do private work on the side. I want to pay tax on this private work and have been told that I need to fill a self assessment tax return. I have now got the relevant forms but can't find where I am supposed to enter my part time work. It seems to be set up for full self employment, not part time. When I filled out the form the end result was no tax which is wrong because I have had a fair bit of private work. Any help would be appreciated, thank you. P.S Tax office are no benefit, they just keep telling me to fill out the form and making out I'm stupid. Thanks for the answers! Red rose: As I am already employed and am being taxed on that part, wouldn't I get taxed on that again if I include that on my self assessment form?

Red Rose:  You need to fill out the form with info from ALL employment, that should make the tax come out right. It doesn't matter whether anything was full or part time. Otherwise you will have to see an accountant for help. ______________ In answer to your added question, no. There is space on the form to write the amount of tax you have already paid, so that is taken off your total tax bill.

I don't know if that is any help, but other then that, maybe get a recommended accountant for just ONE session, who will be worth it for what you will learn

Jo W:  The Revenue's advice is correct, if infuriating! Register to do your tax return online - it is MILES easier! If you try to wrestle with the paper forms you'll go nuts. Go to: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/sa/index.htm (second paragraph down on the web page). You need to enter details of your employment AND the tax you have already paid in that employment (tax already paid can then be taken into account in calculating any further tax due).
