Tax question?
Tax question? My client donated a boat on August 1, 2003. He received an appraisal on the boat 1 week before for 395,000. After donating the property the charity sold the boat for 135,000 on August 8, 2003. IRS has disapproved the 395,000 and says the deduction can only be 135,000 and want 100,000 right away. Any help regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated....

Flyboy:The IRS has always maintained that the fair market value of property determines the value for gift purposes. You have a conflict of values here: The appraisal may be a bit high but the selling price is obviously quite a bit low - you can't sell a big boat in only seven days without drastically red... 4 California BASIC Tax Questions?
I have some questions for you in regards to California tax filing: 1. Can the california tax office pull up original filing forms (the sheets you use pencil/pen on) if you submitted them or are the original forms trashed after a tax person reviews them? 2. Can any of the tax office personelle look at your original filing forms any time they want? Is that legal? Who would and wouldn't be allowed to see you original tax forms in that office? 3. In California, do Californians file 2 tax forms ...

PrissyPanda:1. CA may have the capability to scan your original forms, but it's doubtful they keep them. Most taxing agencies input the returns into their computer system. 2. Tax Questions: re: 125 cafeteria plan / Health insurance plan?
Thank you for your answers in advance. The employees have health ins. deducted from there gross wages (before taxes are applied). When filing the 1020 Qrtrly report it is showing my gross wages (less the health ins) instead of showing the actual gross wages. My questions is when using a 125 cafeteria plan, what taxes (ie: Medicare / S.S / UIA state & federal) are not calculated?...

SuzeY:When you have a Sec 125 cafeteria plan, the insurance is deducted from your gross wage, then taxes. For example, let's say your gross pay is $1,000 a week (boy, wouldn't we all want that job?). You've agreed to have $100/week deducted through a Sec 125 cafeteria plan. Now, your taxable gross pay is ... More...

3 state tax questions?
I moved from California to Maryland last year and started a new job right away in Delaware, while being a resident of MD. My question is how do I file the state tax returns. Do I file a state tax return for each state or is there a way to file for all 3 states using one state return. Not really sure how this would work....

James D:You pay taxes in the state in which you are employed, so it sounds like you will pay state taxes in California and Delaware (assuming there is a state tax there). Tax question - utilizing capital losses through gifting stock.?
I just found that that when you gift stock, the person receiving the stock inherits your cost basis.
