MICHAEL O: Have you been in this employment long ? BR means your having all your income deducted at 22% in income tax when everyone in the uk has what is called a personal allowance. A personal allowance means your first 95 pounds (roughly) that you earn each week is tax free, and at the moment you are not geting that allowance. You need to do one of 2 things. Contact your local HM Revenue & Customs office and get them to change your code, or fill in form P46 which informs HM Revenue & Customs that you are employed and then your code should be adjusted accordingly. Your payroll department at work should have this form to be filled in. The good news is that any tax that has been deducted will be refunded back to you.
